Year 1 /2
Welcome to Year 1/2 at St. George’s.
Class teacher: Mrs White
Teaching Assistants: Mr Bullen, Mrs Caw, Mrs Price and Miss Welburn.
This term our topic is called ourselves. It is a great opportunity for the children to learn lots about themselves as well as their peers. The first half term the children will be thinking about their own homes and location and where we fit in a greater picture looking at the UK and the world. In Science the children will be looking at the human body as well as animals, having the opportunity to discover the similarities and differences.
This topic will encompass Science, History, Geography, Art and DT.
We will be following the RWI rhymes to support phonics with actions.
The buried treasure game supports children with similar examples to what they will be given during their phonics assessment.
Children will read regularly in school in both guided reading and 1:1 sessions. We ask that children read three times a week at home and books are brought to school daily. Books will be changed on a Wednesday and a Friday.
This term we will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction.
Children in Year 1 will be learning to add a one digit number to a two digit number and Year 2 will be moving onto formal calculation methods.
Our PE days will be Wednesday and Friday. For PE children will need shorts, house coloured t-shirt, pumps and some outdoor trainers.
I can not wait to see you all grow and develop over the year.
