Report to Parents

Reporting to Parents: Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gap between them and their peers.

St George’s RC Primary School receives pupil premium for children that are cared for or adopted from care; children whose parents are in the armed forces; and for every pupil who has received free school meals at any time over the past 6 years.

Our aims

At St George’s R C School we ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all our pupils.

We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils from vulnerable groups including those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

In making provision for disadvantaged pupils, we recognise:

  • That not all pupils who receive free school meals will be disadvantaged.
  • That some pupils not entitled to free school meals may be disadvantaged.

Pupil Premium Grant is used following analysis of data, and assessments which will identify priority classes, groups or individuals. Limited funding and resources means that not all children in receipt of Pupil Premium will receive interventions at any one time

Provision

The range of provision the Governors may consider include:

  • Reducing class sizes
  • Providing small group work with an experienced teacher focused on overcoming gaps in learning
  • Employing teaching assistants to support groups of underachieving pupils at both key stage 1 and key stage2
  • All our work through the Pupil Premium will be aimed at accelerating progress ensuring that children achieve at least age related expectations in English, Mathematics and Spelling Punctuation & Grammar.

Impact:

All children made at least expected progress in English and Mathematics.

Interventions:

Success@Arithmetic – average scores on test at least doubled after a 12 week programme.

ReadWrite Inc (Phonics & Reading) – average spelling age and reading age increased by 1 year after a 9 week programme;

Drawing & Talking; Colourful Semantics; Talk about Friendships – all programmes were successful in building children’s confidence and improving accessibility to their curriculum lessons.

Rainbows & Sunbeams (Bereavement) – had a noticeable impact on children accessing the programme thus improving accessibility to learning.  Positive comments were received from parents.

Also delivered were various one-to-one programmes designed for individual children and support with transition to secondary school.
